Rose City Memorials Ltd. History
The Waldner family has been serving Alberta & Saskatchewan since 1961. It all started with two brothers Harold & Art doing cemetery work in the Lethbridge, AB area. In 1963 Harold moved to Rycroft, AB and co owned Town and Country Memorials with his brother Art. In 1973 Harold opened Peace County Memorials. Today that is owned and managed by Debbie Waldner. She is the wife of Harold’s only son Hal Waldner who tragically died in an avalanche.
Art moved to Westlock, AB in 1964 and continued to work under the name Town and Country Memorials. In 1966 Art opened a sales office in Westlock. Art’s son Alvin and daughter Lydean Leimert worked and helped the company grow. From 1978 – 1982 RKR Monument Installations was established by Art’s three sons, Robert, Ken and Rick.
Rose City Memorials Ltd. was established in 1983 in Camrose, AB by Robert Waldner, with his dad in charge of sales. In 1986 Robert and brother Alvin formed a partnership and built a showroom and production plant in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan. This is where the monuments are designed, sandblasted and etched. Rose City Memorials Ltd. continued to grow by opening a showroom in Westlock in 1991 and another in 1995 in Lloydminster. This made it possible for more family members to get involved. Robert’s wife Florence was office manager for two years and was later taken over by Joan Jolliffe. Florence was then free to take care of their home and family. Sister Lydean took over from 2001-2013. Joan Jolliffe is now the office manager from 2013 to present. She has been helping out the Waldner family for several years.
After building the head office and production plant in Cut Knife they have expanded on to the building two times. In 2008 Rose City Memorials celebrated its 25 Anniversary with a community open house. (Click Here)
There have been good and sad times as the years go by. Robert’s dad Art passed away in 2000 and his brother Alvin passed in 2011 from cancer. Robert’s other brother Ken continues to help, by overseeing the installations.
Now in 2018 Rose City Memorials Ltd. have showrooms in Cut Knife, Lloydminster, Camrose, Westlock and several sales representatives in other locations. There are also a few funeral homes where clients can order monuments through Rose City Memorials Ltd.
With Robert in charge, Rose City Memorials Ltd. looks forward to continued success by being “FAMILY OWNED WITH FAMILY PRIDE.”
